I would like to welcome everyone to the 2012 Wyndham Championship.
Last week Rory McIlroy put on a display for the ages. He shot weekend rounds of 67 and 66 to win by a record setting 8 shots. The cool demeanor coupled with the blow away victory has people making comparison to the great Tiger Woods. Though I feel it is far too early to couple these two names in the same breath, it does get me excited for a potential singles Ryder Cup match between the two. There is plenty of golf to be played before this potentially happens though and it begins this week at the Wyndham Championship.
This week the Touring Professionals will be tee it up in gorgeous North Carolina at Sedgefield Country Club. Tensions will be high as this is the player’s final tune up prior to the Fed Ex Cup Playoffs. The first leg of the playoffs allows the Top 125 players in the Fed Ex Cup Rankings to compete in the tournament. Look for plenty of putts on Sunday to be extremely important on the 18th hole.
Players will have the opportunity to make plenty of birdies this week, as Sedgefield has been one of the easiest courses on Tour over the past 3 years. At only 7117 yards in length, and playing as a Par 70, players have the ability to go very low at this North Carolina golf course. Greens in Regulation are extremely high due to shorter rough and moderately difficult fairways. The greens are particularly receptive and allow players to even spin the ball out of the rough. Look for a winning score this week to be around 21 under.
Many of the Tour’s big dogs are sitting this week out as they have already secured their spot in the Fed Ex Cup Playoffs. Some of the Top players competing this week include Webb Simpson, David Toms, Brandt Snedeker and Charles Howell III. With a lack of Top end talent this week, we have an excellent opportunity to get some great value out of players who are not as well known to the average fan.
Here are the 6 players I see having both excellent value and a great shot at winning this week. Enjoy the picks.

I will provide a sneak peak pick below…
David Toms 34 to 1 – Here is my favourite selection of the week. David is a true professional in every sense and I can assure you he has not given up hope on making the Ryder Cup team. David is currently in great form as he enters this week with Top 8’s in 2 of his last 3 starts (US Open and Bridgestone). He also has to be excited about going to a course he has absolutely dominated at. Over the past 3 seasons David has finished T17(2011), 2nd (2010), and T24(2009). Over the 12 rounds he has played in those 3 years he has yet to shoot a single round over Par. This year Toms ranks 7th on Tour in Driving Accuracy and 10th in Sand Save Percentage. Driving the ball will be a very key statistic this week with the greens extremely accessible, and David is one of the best in the world. He is also the type of player who rarely makes a mistake and tends to make the big putt when he needs it (other than the 2011 Players Championship). Look for this Louisiana man to be vying for the championship Sunday afternoon.
