Following a week where we had the pleasure of seeing the world’s best battle it out in the Accenture Match Play Championship, we head to sunny Palm Beach Gardens, Florida for The Honda Classic. Let’s continue the solid picks to this week and grab a winner.
Only 2 of the world’s Top 10 players will be playing this week in Florida (Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood). They will be joined by Tiger Woods and 12 past winners of this event. Johnson Wagner, Kyle Stanley and Mark Wilson are the only players competing this week who have won on the PGA tour this year.
The top players in the world will work their games around PGA National Resort and Spa (Champions Course) redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 2001. The course only plays as a Par 70 and is a total of 7158 yards in length. This course perennially ranks as one of the most difficult out of the 52 courses played by the PGA Tour, mainly due to water hazards. There are 26 water hazards spread out across this course, forcing the players to manage their golf game properly.
The course record at PGA National is a blistering 6 under 64 and is held by Luke Donald (2008), Greg Chalmers (2009) and Rory Sabbatini(2011). To go low like Luke, Greg and Rory did you will need to be accurate on Par 3s and 4s as there are only two par 5s on the course. Some of the difficult Par 4s you will enjoy watching the players battle on include Holes 6 and 10.
Hole 6 – Ranked the second hardest hole on the course last year playing at an average of 4.522. This Par 4 will be playing 479 Yards for the players this week and will challenge them off the tee and on their approach. Water lines the entire left hand side of the 6th forcing many players to bail out right, thus resulting in difficult shots from the rough.
Hole 10 – Another Par 4 that takes two excellent shots to hit the Green in Regulation, the 10th has played as the 4th hardest hole on the course over the past 5 years at an average of 4.209. The 10th will be played anywhere from 508 to 525 yards by the Pro’s this week, forcing many players to hit mid to long irons into the green. Trees line the right side of the hole while a pot bunker at the front of the green will eat plenty of balls up this week.

Here is a sneak peak of one of my 6 Pack System picks:
YE YANG (45 TO 1)
Yang is my favourite selection of the week. He does not get fazed at the idea of playing against the world’s best. He also has had great success at The Honda Classic. Yang picked up his 1st career PGA Tour victory here in 2009 and has followed that up with a 2nd place finish in 2011. Yang is currently ranked 10th on Tour for strokes gained by putting, a stat I feel will really help him this week. When Yang is putting from between 10-15 feet he is ranked 2nd on Tour, sinking 50% of these putts. Look for him to once again have a great showing at this Jack Nicklaus designed course.
I highly recommend you bet on all of my picks –> you can click here to get them.
